Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Read to Impact, the literary community brand of Gemspread Limited ("the Company", "we", "us", "our"), collects, uses, stores, and protects the personal data you provide or generate when you visit and use this website (readtoimpact.org).
We have written this policy to be clear and straightforward. We reserve the right to update it at any time, and we will notify you by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We recommend checking this page periodically.
Who We Are
Gemspread Limited is a publishing and literary enterprise based in Nigeria. Registered address: 4, Ayodele Obisanya Crescent, Alagbaka GRA, Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. 340223.
Read to Impact (RTI) is the literary community brand of Gemspread Limited. RTI connects and empowers booklovers across Africa and beyond through reading challenges, literary festivals, school outreaches, and community programmes. This Policy applies to all information collected through your use of this website.
What Data We Collect
You can browse the public areas of our website — including marketing pages, the impact report, events, and resources — without creating an account or submitting personal information. However, certain features (such as the RTI Lounge) require you to register an account.
We collect the following data:
a) Automatically collected data (all website visitors)
When you visit the website, our hosting and analytics systems may automatically collect:
- Your IP address
- Browser type and version
- Device type and operating system
- Pages visited, time and duration of visit
- Referring website or link
This data is collected in aggregate to help us understand how people use the website and improve our content. It is not used to identify individual visitors.
b) Account and profile data (registered users)
When you create an account to access the RTI Lounge, we collect and store:
- Your name and email address
- Authentication credentials (password is stored in hashed form; we never have access to your plaintext password)
- Date of birth — collected during account setup to verify that you are at least 18 years old, as required to use our platform
- Gender — collected during account setup to facilitate access to gender-specific community spaces (e.g. The Intentional Women Community)
- WhatsApp phone number — collected when you join a community, so that administrators can verify your identity against incoming WhatsApp group join requests and add you to the correct group
- Your country — collected when you join a community, to support cultural diversity in our programming and to verify your WhatsApp phone number against your stated location
- Profile information you choose to provide, such as your display name, bio, and reading interests
- Profile photo, if you choose to upload one
- Your public username and profile URL
- Bookshelf data you add in the RTI Lounge, including your reading log (books read, dates, ratings, and formats) and your to-be-read (TBR) list
- Your membership of RTI subcommunities you choose to join
- Productivity and streak participation data, including streaks you join, your daily check-ins, and start and completion dates
Public bookshelf visibility: if you choose to make your profile public, your reading log and to-be-read list become visible to anyone with your public profile URL. Your date of birth, gender, WhatsApp number, and email address are never displayed publicly. You can change your profile back to private at any time from the Lounge.
If you sign in using Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We do not access any other Google account data.
Account and profile data is stored securely using Supabase, our authentication and database provider. Profile photos are hosted by Cloudinary, our image hosting provider. For details on how these providers handle data, see their respective privacy policies.
c) Email correspondence
If you contact us directly at info@readtoimpact.org, we will retain your email address and the content of your message in order to respond to your enquiry. We will not add you to any mailing list without your explicit consent.
d) WhatsApp Community
If you join the RTI WhatsApp Community via the link on this website, your participation is governed by WhatsApp's own Privacy Policy. RTI does not collect or store personal data from WhatsApp on this website.
Why We Collect Your Data
