THUG LIFE — The Hate U Give Little Infants Fucks Everybody
First off, I will start by saying this is a book that got me hooked. This book tackles so many real-life issues without washing it down to make it seem more “pleasant” for reading. What happened to Khalil Harris is the reality of so many Black lives, and it shouldn’t have happened… Point blank, no explanation: he was murdered! He was a kid, for crying out loud – he was sixteen!!!! One Fifteen said he was scared, and I was like, scared of what!!! What were you scared of, you coward!!!??
Starr didn’t deserve to go through that. She didn’t deserve to see her best friend go like that 😭. I really loved the way the author represented each and every character in this novel!! Though I would have loved that Harris got justice, but realistically, how many murdered Black lives have gotten justice? How many!? Harris is dead just because one man looked at the color of his skin and considered him a threat 😭🙂!!
Our voice is our weapon! We should use it!!!!!!!
Though this is a young adult novel, it tackles so many important themes such as: police brutality, racism, gangs, riots, violence, trauma. Please do take care while reading.
